Open Football Festivals at the House of Angels

A sports event was held at the House of Angels Children’s Village as part of the “Open Football Festivals” project. The day at the House of Angels was filled with movement, energy, sports music, genuine emotions and children’s laughter. Engaging sports relays and a variety of fun activities allowed the children not only to spend their time actively, but also to experience the true spirit and power of teamwork.
Together with project manager Sviatoslav Dymyd and volunteer Nestor Balan, the children took part in team competitions, completed various sports challenges, supported one another and learned how to work together towards a common goal.
Football is much more than simply a game with a ball. It is an opportunity to learn how to interact with others, trust teammates, support those around you, accept both victories and defeats, and never give up after the first setback. These simple yet important skills help shape a child’s character and build confidence in working and communicating as part of a team.
It was especially valuable that everyone could take part in the festival, regardless of their level of physical fitness or previous football experience. The main goal was not simply to win at all costs. What mattered most was playing together, staying active, communicating and enjoying time spent together.
For children who have experienced displacement, the loss of their familiar environment and other challenges caused by the war, activities like these are particularly important. Playing together helps them take their minds off worries, make new friends, feel supported and, most importantly, simply be children.
We sincerely thank the Ukrainian Association of Football, as well as Sviatoslav and Nestor, for organizing the “Open Football Festivals” at the House of Angels Children’s Village. Initiatives like this make sport not only a way to spend time actively, but also an important tool for friendship, personal development and psychological support for children.
