As of January 24, 2012 we raised 2 777 624 grivnas ($247,203). It is 96% of the amount we need to raise. The expected cost of the treatment is 2 900 000 grivnas. December 31, Taras finished the second week of the chemo per protocol RIST. On Sunday Taras could have some rest, and on Monday January 2, 2012, Taras began taking pills that slow down the growth of the tumor. The protocol RIST implies 4 weeks of chemo, and 4 weeks of pills, and according to our plan, it will be over January 29. After that, Taras will have to undergo very detailed testing.
Taras is feeling good. His appetite is back to normal J. The pain in his stomach is gone. Almost every day, we have an opportunity to go for a walk. Our most favorite place is the port. Every day, we see new ships, and it is so cool!
Taras is taking pills at home. We go to a hospital only for bloodwork.
Yesterday, when a nurse was drawing blood from his finger, Taras was not crying. He explained to his mom that “boys do not cry”. The blood test showed that hemoglobin was normal, leukocytes rose, but platelets fell below the critical level – 18. Taras needed plasma transfusion, that was done in the play room from 3 to 6 while Taras was playing memory game with his mom. Taras learned this game in Nuremberg, and he really liked it.
Taras received a lot of gifts for Christmas and New Year. He received a Playmobil Policeman set and Playmobil Spacecraft set. He had never had such nice toys before. Alina Larionova, mother of a 5-year old Katia who is undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma in Greifswald, gave Taras coloring books, markers, a t-shirt, and a play set with various cars and trucks. Taras really likes the toys. Every evening before going to bed, Taras is putting all the toys very neatly next to his bed.
On behalf of Taras, I would like to thank everybody for the wonderful toys that brought many smiles to Taras’ face.

Michael Klapchuk
Michael is the youngest in our family. From his birth, we were fighting for his life. He was born prematurely and with heart failure. Michael was weak and he often had colds that ended with laryngitis, attacks, and seizures. Michael was under doctors’ supervision all the time. Several times, we took him to Lviv and Kiev for consultations with specialists.
In 2011, Michael started first grade. He was weak and tired, and he had frequent colds. Nonetheless, he was eager to study. On January 14, 2012, Michael complained of a stomachache, and his stomach was big and hard on touch.

Ivanna Kuzan
During a physical at school, doctors noticed spots on Ivanna’s lungs, but they did not explain what that could be and refused to refer the girl to see a specialist.
At that time, Ivanna always had fever and dry coughing. ESR was high, and of hemoglobin was low. The girl was getting worse every day.
