Art Class at The Department of Hematology

Art class is the time of entertainment, positive emotions, and meetings with interesting people that our volunteers bring to the department of hematology at Ivano-Frankivsk Children’s Hospital. Classes like this one give to the kids an opportunity to forget about unpleasant treatment, and to the parent – to have an hour of rest.

This time, the children were cutting out snowflakes and snowmen, and after that, they prepared handmade holiday cards that they promised to give to their loved ones.

After the class, the kids did not want to leave. Our art teacher Julia and visitors from VAB Bank promised to come back soon. So now, the children are looking forward to another equally interesting art class next week.

Michael Klapchuk

Michael is the youngest in our family. From his birth, we were fighting for his life. He was born prematurely and with heart failure. Michael was weak and he often had colds that ended with laryngitis, attacks, and seizures. Michael was under doctors’ supervision all the time. Several times, we took him to Lviv and Kiev for consultations with specialists. In 2011, Michael started first grade. He was weak and tired, and he had frequent colds. Nonetheless, he was eager to study. On January 14, 2012, Michael complained of a stomachache, and his stomach was big and hard on touch.

Arina Zhurakovska is a five-year-old girl under the care of the charitable foundation "Ty Anhel". The girl has cerebral palsy. She has been diagnosed with right-sided hemiparesis with pronounced motor skills disturbances. In spite of everything and thanks to the intense therapy during the last several years, the girl is able to walk all by herself. However, to complete the rehabilitation, the family needs 60000 grivnas. Arina's mother is a single parent, and the family does not have that much money. The thorny life path began right at birth: artificial lung ventilation, infusion therapy, umbilical catheter are just a few trial of a poor child.

During a physical at school, doctors noticed spots on Ivanna’s lungs, but they did not explain what that could be and refused to refer the girl to see a specialist. At that time, Ivanna always had fever and dry coughing. ESR was high, and of hemoglobin was low. The girl was getting worse every day.
